Recording a Christmas single at The London Colliseum
In October several Gwalia members, along with other invited choirs, joined the orchestra and chorus of the English National Opera, to record a charity record called ‘A Place to Call Home’. The song was written by Alex Woolf in aid of Shelter and featured soloists Alice Coote, Lesley Garrett, and the great Bryn Terfel who, with Cerys Matthews, is a vice-president of Shelter Cymru.
After a massed-choir rehearsal, the ENO and Soloists entered and combined seamlessly with the thousand plus voices.
Alice Coote outlined the importance of the event with a moving account of a real-world example of homelessness, involving her brother. Her message was clear, that homelessness can affect any family in many different circumstances.
The event was a rewarding but enjoyable experience. The song’s release is due on 6th December with all proceeds going to Shelter.
