Paddington Station - in aid of 'The Samaritans'
In September, the Gwalia’s first gig after the summer break saw the choir singing at Paddington Station, in aid of the Samaritans, one of the charities supported by our President, Cerys Matthews.
Many commuters gathered on the concourse to listen to a typical mix of Welsh classics, along with a few lively well-known English favourites. Quite a few watching joined in with the choir, while some actually made requests, (polite of course!) There were a few people who stayed to listen for a full hour, some shedding the odd tear, probably remembering friends and family that had been waved-back to Wales over the years.
After a couple of hours on the concourse, the choir then raised more money, singing in ‘The Mad Bishop & Bear’, on the station mezzanine.
The high percentage of Welsh travellers at Paddington made for a very enjoyable performance, and an impressive £565 was raised for a very worthwhile charity.
